01 The circle

Eight people. One circle.

Everyone puts in the same amount each month. The order is agreed before the first month, and the first seats go to people with a score of 70 or more.

02 The pot

Each month, one of you receives everything.

Pay as you always do, upload the receipt, and when everyone has paid, that month’s person receives the whole pot.

03 When life gets in the way

Someone falls behind. The circle holds.

Gentle reminders, then three days of grace. If a payment is a week late, the member’s deposit covers it, then their backup covers the rest. The pot still arrives.

04 No interest, ever

Every late fee becomes a donation.

2% plus 1% a day, never more than 10%. Never kept by Covena or by anyone in the circle. You choose the cause.

What is a jameʿiyya?

A savings circle. A group of people each puts in the same amount every month, and each month one of them receives the whole pot, until everyone has had a turn. It has run on trust for generations. Covena keeps that trust and adds the safeguards.

Does my money go through Covena?

No. You pay the way you always have, in cash or by transfer. Covena records each payment, checks the receipt, keeps the order and makes sure the pot reaches the right person.

Is there any interest?

None, charged or earned. Late fees are never kept by Covena or by other members: every fee goes, in full, to a charity.

What if someone doesn’t pay?

They get reminders and three days of grace. After that, a small late fee goes to charity. If they still haven’t paid a week after the due date, their deposit covers the payment first and their backup covers the rest, so the pot is still paid.

What is the deposit for?

It protects the people who receive the pot early. Those in the first seats, and those still building their score, lock a small deposit before the circle starts. It’s only used if they miss a payment, and it comes back when the circle ends.

Is it free?

Yes. Covena earns from partner offers you choose to use, never from your circle.
